Layered site security: visible placement (not hidden from neighbors), motion lighting, fencing or property-line markers, signage, secondary cameras at the perimeter. Each layer is cheap; combined they make the site too much work for opportunistic theft.
Place containers WHERE neighbors can see them. Hidden-behind-trees placement is the most-stolen scenario. Visibility from at least one neighbor or street is a major deterrent.
Motion-activated LED floodlights ($30-$80 each). Solar versions work at remote sites. Two lights minimum: one over the door, one at the corner. Cuts theft attempts dramatically.
Property-line fencing makes accessing the container harder. Even a 4-ft fence + locked gate is a major deterrent — most theft is opportunistic, not determined.
"Property under surveillance" + "Security Cameras In Use" signs. Cheap psychological deterrent. Free if you have cameras; useful even without.
A camera at the property entrance + one at the container = double-coverage. Catches the path of approach + the actual access attempt.
Visit the container regularly. Don't let it look abandoned. Move things around occasionally so it looks active. Abandoned-looking containers attract attention.
